HBO Max, the streaming platform from Warner Bros Discovery, is set for a launch in 14 markets across the Asia Pacific region next month.
HBO Max Discover Asia Pacific Markets
Warner Bros Discovery's streaming service, HBO Max, is set to launch in 14 new markets across the Asia Pacific on October 15. The expansion takes the total number of markets where the service is available to over 90.
The new markets include Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Popular entertainment brands such as HBO, Harry Potter, the DC Universe, and Cartoon Network will be brought to these new regions.
Despite the expansion, no changes to the pricing structure of the service have been announced. Additionally, no new subscriber numbers for the region have been revealed, and the expansion has not been affected by the bid for Warner Bros Discovery by the newly merged Paramount Skydance.
The global expansion of HBO Max has strengthened Warner Bros Discovery's position in the international streaming market. In the second quarter, the streaming unit, which includes Discovery+, gained 3.4 million subscribers globally.
The takeover negotiations of Warner Bros. Discovery will be led by Paramount Skydance, a newly formed company from the merger of Paramount and Skydance, with David Ellison playing a leading role. Oracle founder Larry Ellison is providing backing for the bid. The negotiations are ongoing as of September 2025, but no exact completion date has been specified yet. The proposed deal is seen as part of a new wave of consolidation in Hollywood, with Warner Bros. Discovery valued at over 70 billion USD.
In a move that further consolidates the entertainment industry, a newly merged Paramount Skydance is preparing a bid for Warner Bros Discovery. The global expansion of HBO Max has not affected the planned split of Warner Bros Discovery's assets into studio-focused Warner Bros and cable-centric Discovery Global by mid-2026. The expansion of HBO Max to the Asia Pacific markets has not been announced to include any changes to the content available on the service or any new partnerships or acquisitions.
