The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ather Energy, a leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer based in India. This collaboration is part of the Startup Policy Forum's (SPF) Build in Bharat initiative, led by Deepa S. Kurup, the President and CEO of the Startup Policy Forum.

The partnership aims to create an enabling environment for startups to contribute to EV manufacturing and clean energy solutions. The focus of the collaboration is on strategic mentorship for deeptech startups, co-hosted talent and skill development initiatives, joint innovation programs, and on-ground exposure visits.

Tarun Mehta, co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy, expressed his happiness about the collaboration, stating that with policy support and stronger industry participation, this initiative can help founders tackle core technology challenges and scale high-quality products from India. He also emphasized that the electric mobility sector in India is entering a transformative phase, a belief shared by Joint Secretary, DPIIT, Sanjiv Singh.

Infrastructure support for startups in the EV value chain is also a part of the agreement. The collaboration includes participation in events like Startup Mahakumbh, providing opportunities for startups to showcase their innovations and network with industry leaders.

Shweta Rajpal Kohli, President and CEO of Startup Policy Forum, stated that this partnership brings to life the Startup Policy Forum's Build in Bharat initiative. She further emphasized that unlocking the potential of India's manufacturing sector through collaboration is key to building a globally competitive innovation ecosystem.

With this collaboration, Ather Energy, which competes with Ola Electric, is set to strengthen support systems for hardware and deep-tech startups, contributing to India's transition towards sustainable transport and creating a more enabling environment for manufacturing-oriented startups.
