Google's head of Google TV, Shobana Radhakrishnan, honored with an award for groundbreaking advancements in Entertainment Technology
Shobana Radhakrishnan, the Senior Director of Engineering at Google TV, has been awarded the Digital Entertainment Group's (DEG) 2025 Hedy Lamarr Award for Innovation in Entertainment Technology. This prestigious accolade recognizes female executives in the fields of entertainment and technology who have made a significant contribution to the industry.
Radhakrishnan's work at Google TV has been instrumental in integrating AI innovations into the TV operating system. She launched the first AI-driven innovation in Google's history, introducing Gemini and AI-based personalized recommendations. This development set a new industry standard for multiplatform, multimodal personalized TV experiences.
DEG President & CEO Amy Jo Smith stated that Radhakrishnan's work with AI to provide consumers a state-of-the-art experience with personalized recommendations in the Google TV OS is being honored with the 2025 Hedy Lamarr Innovation Award.
Radhakrishnan's contributions extend beyond Google TV. Over a career spanning more than two decades, she has been a technology visionary, bringing AI-based innovation to many products. Prior to Google, she held various technical leadership roles at Roku, Mindflash Technologies, Yahoo, and Netflix.
At Roku, Radhakrishnan spearheaded a multi-year migration that was critical to core business success. At Netflix, she led architecturally complex migrations that helped the streaming giant expand globally. Radhakrishnan is also passionate about diversity in STEM and has led Diversity and Inclusion initiatives across Roku, Google, Netflix, and Yahoo.
Radhakrishnan leads next-generation TV product and research groups at Google TV, innovating using Gemini and AI on TV. These innovations served as important ecosystem elements for Google TV and have also served as benchmarks for the connected TV industry.
Radhakrishnan was responsible for bringing Google search and recommendation algorithms to Google TV. She was also the overall engineering lead for the launch of streaming's first original series, "House of Cards," at Netflix.
The Hedy Lamarr Award is in its ninth year and recognizes female executives in the fields of entertainment and technology who have made a significant contribution to the industry. Previous winners include Wendy Aylsworth, Chief Technology Officer of Warner Bros., and Dawn Ostroff, Chief Content Officer of Spotify.
Radhakrishnan will be presented DEG’s 2025 Hedy Lamarr Award at a ceremony in Los Angeles in fall.
