Google Upgrades AI Service with Enhanced 2.5 Pro and Deep Search for premium users, proactive AI calling across the board
Google has taken a significant stride in enhancing its search capabilities with the introduction of Deep Search, a new feature within Google AI Mode. This groundbreaking innovation, announced at Google I/O 2025, is currently available to paying subscribers in the United States, marking a major leap towards an AI-first search experience.
The rollout of AI Mode began publicly outside of labs on June 13, 2025, following official announcements made earlier in May. Deep Search, along with the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, was launched as part of this rollout, offering a significant enhancement focused on sophisticated reasoning, math, and code queries.
Deep Search operates by issuing hundreds of internal searches and reasoning across multiple information sources to generate a nuanced and fully cited report. It clarifies query intentions by asking users for more details before initiating the research process, making it particularly valuable for in-depth research related to professional tasks, hobbies, studies, or significant life decisions, such as financial analysis or home buying.
The new feature offers a more context-aware, layered reasoning search experience, potentially replacing traditional browsing for many complex queries. A new model picker also allows users to switch between the "Default" fast-assistance model and the more powerful Gemini 2.5 Pro model for demanding questions.
In addition to Deep Search, AI-powered phone calls powered by Google's Project Astra now allow AI to call local businesses on users' behalf to check availability and pricing. Higher usage limits for this feature are available for paid subscribers.
Google Search Console has integrated AI Mode tracking starting from June 13, 2025, enabling webmasters and SEOs to monitor performance related to AI-driven search interactions in the US.
To initiate the Deep Search process, simply search for "pet groomers near me" and select "Have AI check pricing." Google AI Pro and AI Ultra members in the US can access Gemini 2.5 Pro in AI Mode.
Free users will also gain limited access to AI calling features, while paid plans (AI Pro and Ultra) gain access to the full Deep Search and Gemini 2.5 Pro capabilities. Users can read more about the feature here.
