Google Fi Wireless, the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) backed by tech giant Google, has announced a series of updates and new features in 2025. These changes aim to enhance user privacy, security, and flexibility, while also offering more affordable pricing options.

One of the most significant updates is the introduction of end-to-end encryption for calls, which ensures that calls cannot be intercepted or listened to by unauthorized parties. This advanced security feature is set to protect user communications on the network, although details about its rollout and device compatibility are yet to be disclosed.

Google Fi has also improved its support for iPhone users, enabling visual voicemail directly within the iPhone's native Phone app. This update simplifies voicemail access for iPhone users and aligns Fi with features commonly offered by other carriers. By August 13, 2025, voicemail in the Fi app for iOS will be phased out.

In addition to these improvements, Google Fi has expanded international 5G access to over 90 countries for select plans. Data-only eSIMs are now available for tablets, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card.

Google Fi uses multiple networks, primarily T-Mobile US, and intelligently switches between them to deliver the best coverage and 5G speeds ranging from 300 to 500 Mbps in urban and suburban areas. However, coverage may be less reliable in rural or mountainous regions compared to Verizon or AT&T.

The company now offers four main plans: Flexible, Unlimited Essentials, Unlimited Standard, and Unlimited Premium. The Unlimited Standard plan, priced at $50 per month, offers a balance between affordability and comprehensive unlimited usage, serving as a new option alongside the Essentials and Premium plans.

Google Fi also supports multiline discounts for families and includes international data in plans. A seven-day free trial is available for users to test the service before committing.

The promotion for Google Fi Wireless is prominently featured on the Google Store, with devices like the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9a available at substantial discounts or free with service. The Google Store is set to open its eighth location in Miami in the near future.

These updates reinforce Google Fi’s position as a competitive, user-friendly MVNO with strong network technology and growing plan options. With its focus on security enhancements, improved iPhone usability, expanded international 5G, and more flexible, affordable wireless plans, Google Fi continues to position itself as a compelling choice for tech-savvy consumers.

In alignment with these updates, Google Fi Wireless is expanding its support for smartphones, including offering end-to-end encryption for calls on smartphones to enhance security. Furthermore, the company is making strides in technology advancements, such as data-only eSIMs for gadgets like tablets, eliminating the need for physical SIM cards.
