Google Cloud-DORA Report 2025: AI Tools Ubiquitous, Trust Remains Low
A new report, the Google Cloud-DORA Report 2025, reveals that while AI tools are increasingly integral to developers' work, trust in their outputs remains low. The study, released through Google Cloud's research portal, shows that 90% of developers now use AI daily, a 14% increase from last year. However, only 24% trust the information these tools produce.
The report, based on the DORA AI Capabilities Model, highlights that developers spend a median of two hours daily working with AI assistants. They primarily use AI for writing and modifying new code, but also for debugging, code reviews, and educational purposes. Despite this heavy reliance, with 65% of respondents describing themselves as such, developers' trust in AI tools remains low.
The model advocates for user-centric design, clear communication protocols, and small-batch workflows to harness AI's value while mitigating risks. At Google, more than a quarter of new code now originates from AI systems, leading to a 10% productivity boost across engineering teams. The full report and documentation are available through Google Cloud's research portal.
The Google Cloud-DORA Report 2025 underscores AI's growing role in software development, with 90% of developers now using AI tools daily. However, developers' trust in these tools remains low, at 24%. The report and the DORA AI Capabilities Model aim to guide organizations in leveraging AI effectively while addressing developers' concerns about its reliability.
