The World Mobile Stratospheric platform uses hydrogen-powered high-altitude fixed-wing aircraft or drones flying at around 20,000 meters (60,000 feet) to provide direct-to-handset 5G connectivity with high bandwidth, low latency, and low cost. The key aspects of this system include:
- Hydrogen-powered aircraft: These aircraft fly in the stratosphere, providing a clean, sustainable source of power that reduces environmental impact by up to 99% compared to traditional telecom infrastructure. They serve as airborne base stations, bypassing costly ground infrastructure.
- High-capacity connectivity: Each aircraft can support up to 500,000 simultaneous mobile connections using advanced radio and phased-array beam technology to cover wide areas with 6ms latency.
- Blockchain infrastructure: The platform employs World Mobile's token, WMTX/USD, to underpin a decentralized sharing economy model. Blockchain ensures secure, transparent data management and allows independent network providers to collaborate seamlessly, incentivizing community participation while enabling new fintech applications such as crypto payments and cross-border transactions.
- Cost efficiency and scalability: Operating costs are up to 18 times lower than satellite systems, making it economically feasible for underserved and remote regions. The tokenized, decentralized network also promotes scalable growth with sustainable economics.
