Global Launch of Gencomm's Decarbonization Support Tool for Hydrogen Bus Fleets Now Accessible Online
The GenComm Programme Manager, Paul Mc Cormack, has warmly welcomed the global launch of the EST (GenComm Enabling Support Tool), marking a significant step towards helping bus operators embark on their decarbonisation journey.
The EST, developed by Tadgh Cummins of GenComm Partner University of Galway, is now available online for the first time. This easy-to-use tool has been integrated into a simple online form, making it accessible to a wide range of bus operators worldwide.
Tim Williamson from GenComm Partner Hy Energy Consultancy explains that the EST can help bus operators understand where to focus their decarbonisation efforts by providing estimates of the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Total Carbon Abatement (TCA) for transitioning to a hydrogen-based fleet.
The outputs of the EST compare traditional diesel, battery electric, fuel cell, and a mixed fleet approach for decarbonisation. This comparison allows users to make informed decisions based on real data analysis for optimising renewable energy use in decarbonising communities.
The EST presents charts comparing the TCO and TCA of hydrogen, battery, electric, traditional diesel, and mixed fleet approaches. Furthermore, it identifies suitable bus routes for hydrogen buses and variants for mixed bus fleets (Hydrogen, Electric, Diesel).
To use the EST, general information about the bus fleet, such as fleet size, operational time, and type of buses, must be input. The tool is designed to promote cost-effective decarbonisation and energy security, and to help find the right role for hydrogen in bus fleets.
The EST is part of GenComm Innovation and is currently live as of January 31, 2023. However, there is no available information on which cities have called upon the GenComm Enabling Support Tool for bus fleet decarbonisation since its launch.
