Global automaker Geely could potentially lead the robotics industry, according to an executive's statement.
In a groundbreaking announcement made at the recently concluded 2025 World AI Conference, Geely, a leading automobile manufacturer, unveiled its ambitious strategy to transform itself into a major player in the robotics industry. Geely Auto (HKG: 0175) aspires to become China's largest and potentially the world's largest robotics company.
At the heart of Geely's strategy is the integration of full-domain AI across various aspects of its vehicles, from architecture and powertrain to chassis, cockpit, R&D, manufacturing, and services. This is part of its "Intelligent Geely 2025" initiative. The goal is to evolve AI from a simple execution tool into an intelligent assistant capable of handling complex matters.
Li Chuanhai, Geely's vice president, stated that Geely is the fastest company to transition from traditional automobiles to embodied intelligence. One key component of this transition is the development of a AI-native intelligent cockpit operating system (Agent OS). This system integrates multimodal large AI models and voice AI to create human-like, emotionally responsive in-cabin experiences.
Moreover, Geely plans to deploy a Full-domain AI for Intelligent Vehicles system, the first in the industry, that widely applies AI across the entire vehicle domain and value chain, enabling embodied intelligence in cars. To achieve this, Geely is partnering with leading AI firms like StepFun to integrate cutting-edge foundational large models into automotive AI applications.
Geely is also investing heavily in AI infrastructure. The Xingrui Intelligent Data Center 2.0, with 23.5 EFLOPS computing power, is the highest among Chinese automakers. This powerful data center uses data from over 40 billion automotive data points to train AI models rapidly and at scale.
The company is also leveraging AI innovations in safety and vehicle performance technologies. For instance, the Qianli Haohan system and Thunderbolt AI Hybrid 2.0 AI Digital Chassis, already in mass production, are testaments to Geely's commitment to AI-driven automotive technology.
By emphasising AI as a core competitive factor in automotive technology, Geely is marking a significant shift from traditional vehicle hardware towards software-driven intelligence and robotics capabilities. This comprehensive AI ecosystem moves beyond smart vehicles towards broader robotics applications, aiming for leadership in intelligent robotics globally.
