Germany now boasts a total of 175,141 public electric vehicle charging points, according to the Federal Network Agency.

In the rapidly evolving world of electric vehicles (EVs), Germany is making significant strides in its charging infrastructure. The latest data reveals a dynamic landscape, with several federal states leading the charge.

Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), and Baden-Württemberg are the front-runners, each boasting around 30,000 charging points. NRW has recently overtaken Bavaria for the first time in eight years, with 34,063 charging points compared to Bavaria's 33,909.

Behind the top three, Lower Saxony and Hesse manage to reach the five-digit range, with 17,326 and 14,121 charging points respectively, marking a significant increase of 16% and 19% respectively.

The growth is not limited to fast charging points (DC). The number of fast charging points increased by more than 10,000 year-on-year, now totaling 42,147. Particularly noteworthy is the growth in ultra-fast chargers with more than 299 kW, which now account for around 13,500 charging points.

However, charging points with medium power between 22 and 49 kW are almost stagnant, accounting for about 1,850 charging points. In contrast, a slight decrease was registered in the segment of public low-power chargers (0-3.7 kW).

EnBW mobility+ leads the market in terms of the number of charging points, with 10,320, followed by E.ON Drive with 4,555 and Tesla with 3,548 charging points. When sorted by installed capacity, EnBW mobility+ remains at the top with 894,240 kW, closely followed by Tesla with 877,000 kW.

The total installed capacity of charging facilities in Germany has seen a substantial increase of 29%, from 5.45 to 7.01 gigawatts. The number of publicly accessible charging points has also grown, with approximately 24,000 or 16% more compared to the previous year, totaling 175,141 as of August 1, 2025.

Cities like Hamburg and Saxony-Anhalt have shown particularly strong growth, with Hamburg recording a 26% increase and Saxony-Anhalt a 20% increase in charging points.

As the EV market continues to expand, the dominance of EnBW in Germany's charging infrastructure is evident. With the largest and most dense fast-charging network including over 2,500 fast charging locations, EnBW's position is clearly dominant based on its expansive network and partnerships such as with Globus supermarkets.

Despite being a larger region, Hamburg has 3,788 charging points, while Saxony-Anhalt has 2,979 charging points, underscoring the rapid growth in EV infrastructure across Germany.

This rapid expansion of charging infrastructure is a promising sign for the future of electric vehicles in Germany, making it easier for drivers to transition to electric vehicles and contribute to a more sustainable future.
