Germany Launches Drone Defense Center Amid Growing Threat

NATO officials and military personnel have raised alarm over the growing threat posed by drones. Recent incidents near airports and military sites in Scandinavia and Europe have highlighted the danger. In response, Germany is setting up a drone defense center.

The center, announced by Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, will focus on developing and testing technologies to detect, track, and neutralize unauthorized drones. Methods like signal jamming and interceptor drones will be explored to ensure a swift and effective response.

Investigators in Denmark suspect a 'professional actor' behind the flights, with Russia being a point of suspicion. The drones involved are larger than typical quadrocopters and not commercially available. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has described the incidents as the most serious attack on Denmark's critical infrastructure to date.

The challenge of drone defense is compounded in Germany by a complex legal situation. The new center will bring together competencies of various federal and state authorities, including the German Armed Forces, to tackle this issue.

The establishment of the drone defense center in Germany underscores the seriousness of the threat posed by unauthorized drone activity. By combining expertise and developing advanced technologies, the center aims to enhance security and military response capabilities in the face of this growing concern.
