Anti-drone drones and jamming signals - DLR researches drone interception - Germany Bolsters Drone Defense as Threat Grows
The German military and research institutions are stepping up efforts to address the growing threat of drones. Lieutenant General Alfons Mais has highlighted drone defense as a critical weakness, prompting the German Aerospace Center (DLR) to prioritize developing countermeasures.
The DLR is exploring various methods to locate, track, and neutralize unwanted drones. This includes jamming signals to disrupt drone operations and using interception drones to physically remove threats. The organization's project CUSTODIAN is conducting initial tests at the National Test Center for Unmanned Aerial Systems in Cochstedt, with promising results so far.
The changing security situation in Europe has raised concerns about foreign drone sightings. Norbert Röttgen has called for a procurement program for defense drones to bolster the country's capabilities. The army is also actively seeking ways to recognize drones, evaluate situations, and select appropriate countermeasures while ensuring safety.
The German military and the DLR are working together to strengthen drone defense. Successful tests at the Cochstedt center have shown promise in intercepting unwanted drones. With increased foreign drone sightings, the development of effective countermeasures is a top priority.
