German corporation announces $175 million research and development facility project in Ho Chi Minh City
SAP Labs Vietnam, the second centre for the multinational software company SAP in Southeast Asia, has been a significant player in SAP's global product development and digital transformation initiatives since its opening in September 2024. Located in a Grade-A building in Saigon ward, Ho Chi Minh City, the R&D centre has rapidly grown to over 200 employees and is set to expand to 500 by 2027, reflecting SAP’s significant investment of over $175 million into Vietnam.
One of the key roles of SAP Labs Vietnam is building a local talent ecosystem. Through close collaboration with top Vietnamese universities, the centre nurtures the next generation of tech innovators skilled in cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and software engineering. The centre is also seeking senior-level talent and is working closely with leading universities in Ho Chi Minh City to nurture young tech talent in advanced fields such as data analytics, AI, and software engineering.
Another crucial role of SAP Labs Vietnam is driving localized innovation. The centre is leveraging Vietnam’s young, tech-savvy workforce and rapid digital transformation landscape to meet the increasing demand for customized solutions in key Asian markets such as Korea and Japan. The new R&D centre will support SAP's product development, particularly in sustainable digital supply chains and intelligent enterprise solutions integrated with AI.
SAP Labs Vietnam also supports SAP's broader mission as a leader in enterprise applications and business AI. It provides core product development capabilities that underlie SAP’s offerings in finance, procurement, HR, supply chain, and customer experience globally. In the context of SAP’s worldwide development network of 20 labs in 17 countries, SAP Labs Vietnam is a vital strategic location enabling SAP to scale sustainable and inclusive innovation efforts that align with its global vision for growth and digital transformation.
In recognition of its contributions, FPT IS, a Vietnamese company, was awarded SAP's Best Partner of the Year at the SAP Southeast Asia Partner Success Summit 2024. FPT IS has also received awards for Best Rise Partner and Best Midmarket Partner at the same event. Another strategic partner in the Asia Pacific region is ABeam Consulting, which specializes in supply chain digital transformation and has created a new approach that utilizes data management for optimal resource deployment during digital transformation.
Thomas Saueressig, a member of the executive board of SAP SE, stated that SAP Labs Vietnam is an indispensable catalyst in the digital transformation of one of Asia's most dynamic tech markets. With its focus on advanced technology areas such as AI, data analytics, and software engineering, SAP Labs Vietnam is not only a development centre but also a key strategic pillar enhancing SAP’s global competitiveness and innovation capacity, particularly in emerging tech and regional market needs.
