Geekom's Photonicat 2: Compact, Powerful Computing Brick Surpasses Kickstarter Goal
Geekom has launched the Photonicat 2, a compact, battery-powered computing brick with impressive features. The device has already surpassed its Kickstarter funding goal, raising $13,732 from 40 backers with 22 days left in the campaign.
The Photonicat 2 offers up to 24 hours of battery life, thanks to its 7000mAh battery. It uses a passive cooling design, supplemented by a fan for heavier tasks. The device runs Linux with kernel 6.12+ and supports Debian and OpenWrt. It also comes with an Android build script.
The compact brick, measuring 154 x 78 x 32 mm and weighing 260 grams without batteries, packs a powerful eight-core Rockchip RK3576 processor, offering three times the performance of its predecessor, the RK3568. It includes an LCD screen displaying network status, data consumption, storage capacity, IP information, and system temperatures, fully customizable using JSON.
The Photonicat 2 supports HDMI 4K output and dual gigabit Ethernet connections. It also offers expandable storage via an NVMe slot supporting compact 2230 drives. Connectivity options include USB-C (30-watt charging), USB-3, microSD, nano-SIM, and external antenna connectors for improved reception.
With its impressive battery life, powerful processor, and versatile connectivity options, the Photonicat 2 is poised to make a mark in the compact computing market. The device's success on Kickstarter indicates strong consumer interest, with the campaign still ongoing.
