Gaming Handhelds: ROG Xbox Ally X & Lenovo Legion Go 2 Fall Short on Value

The gaming handheld market has seen several new releases, with the ROG Xbox Ally X and Lenovo Legion Go 2 making waves. However, the author's review suggests that some of these devices may not offer the best value for money.

Starting with the ROG Xbox Ally X, priced at $999 / £799 / AU$1,599, the author found its performance, despite using AMD's Ryzen Z2 Extreme, to be negligible compared to its predecessor, the ROG Xbox Ally, which retails for $599 / £499 / AU$999. The author also noted that the ROG Xbox Ally X's performance and display did not justify its higher price compared to Xbox Series S models.

The Lenovo Legion Go 2, priced at $1,349 / £1,099 / AU$2,109, was deemed excessive by the author, given that it uses the same processor as the ROG Xbox Ally X. Meanwhile, the Steam Deck LCD, on sale for $319.20 / £279.20 / AU$519.20 during the Steam Autumn Sale, was praised for offering sufficient performance at its price point. The author also considered the Steam Deck OLED to be a high-value handheld.

In conclusion, the author recommends considering the Steam Deck models for their performance and value. The ROG Xbox Ally X and Lenovo Legion Go 2, despite their high prices, did not impress the author with their upgrades or performance. The author considers the Lenovo Legion Go S SteamOS (Z1 Extreme) to be a satisfactory upgrade for the foreseeable future.
