Fire Department Solingen Averts Disaster in A3 Highway Hazardous Materials Incident

On September 23, 2025, the Fire Department Solingen confronted a hazardous materials incident on the A3 federal highway at the Ohligser Heide rest area. A truck carrying unknown liquids leaked, triggering a prompt response from emergency services. Upon arrival, firefighters found a truck with an unknown liquid leaking from its cargo area. The police swiftly arranged for the vehicle's removal to prevent further spread. Initially, fears of many injured people arose, but a thorough investigation dismissed serious injuries. Firefighters, equipped with chemical protective suits and heavy breathing apparatus, inspected the truck. A drone was also deployed for reconnaissance. The liquid was absorbed using a binding agent, and samples were taken to a mobile lab. Analysis revealed the liquid to be contaminated water. Around 70 personnel, including professional and volunteer firefighters from various stations and units, worked tirelessly to contain the situation. The rest area was evacuated and cordoned off to ensure safety. The incident was brought under control around 4:45 PM. Despite initial concerns, no serious injuries were reported. The Fire Department Solingen's swift and coordinated response averted a potential disaster.
