Fintech expansion propelled by Clowd9, stretching from bustling Lagos to energetic London
Clowd9 Brings Revolutionary Payment Solutions to African Fintech Startups
A UK-based fintech company, Clowd9, is set to revolutionize the African fintech landscape by offering end-to-end, fully cloud-native payment infrastructure. This move aims to reduce costs dramatically and overcome limitations of legacy global card schemes like Visa and Mastercard.
Suresh Vaghjiani, the co-founder and CEO of Clowd9, highlighted the shifting narrative regarding Nigerian firms expanding abroad. He pointed out that companies like Moneypoint and Flutterwave are proving otherwise, and Clowd9 is looking to build on this momentum.
Clowd9's strategy centers on a 90% reduction in card service infrastructure costs, offering African fintech startups scalable, affordable, and flexible payment solutions. This reduction in costs enables local innovation and global expansion without the traditional geographic or financial barriers.
The company's payments platform is globally connected, with no physical data centers, no excess hardware, and a pay-as-you-use model. This design reduces infrastructure complexity and cost, and supports scaling across borders seamlessly.
To further enhance its offerings, Clowd9 has formed a strategic partnership with SaaScada, a cloud-native core banking platform. This partnership aims to help African banks and fintechs launch new services faster, reduce operational costs, and extend financial access to underserved or remote regions.
Features like SaaScada’s Product Sequencer enable quicker development and iteration of customer-centric financial products, helping to accelerate fintech innovation at scale across Africa.
Olatunbosun Alake, Lagos State Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, welcomed the UK delegation. He emphasized the state's investments in digital infrastructure, progressive policies, and support for grassroots startups. Over 4,000km of fiber optics have been laid in Lagos, and innovation hubs have been established in underserved areas of the city.
Alake's vision for the Lagos-London Innovation Corridor involves shared value, ethical AI, and fintech infrastructure linking the global North and South. He urged UK investors to collaborate deeply with Nigerian innovators in building this corridor.
The visit by the UK business delegation, organized by London & Partners, underscores Lagos's growing role as a key hub in global fintech strategy. The city is being recognized for its dynamic startup ecosystem, strong creative talent, and practical innovation shaped by real-world challenges.
Clowd9's platform is behind leading fintechs such as Revolut, Monzo, and Starling Bank, and the company's entry into the African market is set to redefine the fintech landscape. By providing affordable, scalable infrastructure, Clowd9 is empowering African startups to grow locally and expand internationally without geographic or financial constraints.
