Expansion of Charging Stations Persists in Bergisch Gladbach

The city of Bergisch Gladbach is taking a leading role in the expansion of public charging infrastructure, with a focus on inner-city residential areas where parking and charging options are often limited. This development, which is gaining significant momentum, is thanks to the early staffing of the topic by the city administration.

Currently, around 80 public charging points at charging stations are already in operation throughout the city. These charging points, managed by companies such as RheinEnergie and its subsidiary TankE GmbH, BELKAW, Wirelane, Hochtief Ladepartner, E-Hub Solutions, and Qwello Germany, are driving the expansion on a commercial basis.

Mayor Frank Stein is pleased with the city's pioneering role in NRW, stating that the consistent expansion of charging infrastructure is a significant step forward for the city. The administration is also in contact with companies that have been awarded contracts by the federal government to realize two fast charging sites within the Germany network in the city area.

Future plans include densifying public fast charging infrastructure, with the number of public charging points set to double in the coming weeks. The city administration is providing the necessary urban traffic and parking areas for this purpose, only allocating areas for public charging infrastructure where there are still unmet needs.

The current and planned charging points overview can be found on the city's website. The city's efforts in this area were first calculated in 2023 by the EcoLibro office in Troisdorf based on a comprehensive data basis. In 2025, this demand analysis was updated to reflect current developments and the already completed expansion of public charging infrastructure in the city area.

The companies behind the expansion of public charging stations in Bergisch Gladbach include RheinEnergie and its subsidiary TankE GmbH, which manages planning, construction, and operation of charging infrastructure in the region. Additionally, the energy provider BELKAW is involved, supplying power connections for charging stations in the city. TankE also collaborates with local utilities and companies for the rollout of charging points.

This expansion of public charging infrastructure in urban areas is a positive step towards a more sustainable future. With the number of public charging points set to double in the coming weeks, residents and visitors of Bergisch Gladbach can look forward to easier and more convenient electric vehicle charging options.
