Expanding partnership portfolio in Bengaluru's thriving market, JSA welcomes 2 new collaborators

Bengaluru, known as India's Silicon Valley, is witnessing a surge in the presence of top law firms. AZB & Partners, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Khaitan & Co, Economic Law Practice, Emerald Law, Stratage Law Partners, and Wadia Ghandy & Co are among the firms that have recently established their outposts in the city.

One of the notable additions to the legal landscape is J. Sagar Associates (JSA), which has strengthened its team with several key hires. Brijita Prakash has joined the firm as a real estate partner, bringing extensive experience in title, urban development, and regulatory compliance within the real estate sector. Prakash, who was previously with DSK Legal, specializes in the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) related licensing, compliance, and disputes.

Prakash is accompanied by Santosh Vijay, a corporate partner who previously worked at K Law. Vijay specializes in private equity and venture capital deals, particularly in the start-up space. Notably, Vijay advised Bengaluru-based pharma company Strides Pharma Sciences on the $15 million sale of its Singapore manufacturing facility.

With the addition of Prakash, Vijay, and Rakesh Warrier last month, JSA now boasts 21 partners in Bengaluru, one of the largest offerings for a pan-national firm in the city. The firm has made six partner hires in just over a month, indicating a strategic focus on growth and expansion.

Other recent hires for JSA included Anurag Shrivastav from Trilegal and Harshavardhan Abburi. While no specific partner hires were announced for Trilegal recently, Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan Attorneys (LKS) announced a significant leadership expansion, elevating sixteen partners to executive partner status across India, reflecting continued growth and leadership nurturing.

The legal tech ecosystem in Bengaluru is also expanding rapidly, with Harvey AI opening its first Indian office there to tap into India’s booming legal tech market projected to grow at 13.8% annually through 2035. This broader trend of legal market expansion in the city is conducive to potential partner acquisitions or promotions in leading firms like J. Sagar Associates and Trilegal in the near future.

Among foreign firms, BCLP boosted its India team with a key hire of Shivani Sanghi, underscoring competitive partner-level movements in the Indian legal market. However, these movements appear to be more focused on foreign firms or their India desks rather than specifically J. Sagar or Trilegal.

In summary, while direct new partner hires for J. Sagar Associates or Trilegal in Bengaluru have not been publicly detailed recently, major Indian law firms like LKS are promoting partners aggressively, and the entire Bengaluru legal ecosystem, including legal tech players, is growing substantially. This environment is conducive to expansion and potential partner acquisitions or promotions in these firms in the near future.

  1. The surge in top law firms in Bengaluru, such as J. Sagar Associates (JSA), is focusing on compliance and growth, as seen by their recent hires like Brijita Prakash, specializing in the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) and Santosh Vijay, who handles private equity and venture capital deals.
  2. As the legal tech ecosystem in Bengaluru expands, with Harvey AI opening its first Indian office, providing insights into India’s booming legal tech market, JSA's strategic expansion can potentially lead to future partner acquisitions or promotions, similar to what major Indian firms like LKS are currently experiencing.
  3. AZB & Partners, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Khaitan & Co, Economic Law Practice, Emerald Law, Stratage Law Partners, and Wadia Ghandy & Co, among others, are also investing in compliance and growing their teams to cater to the increasing needs of the finance, business, and technology sectors in Bengaluru, which is being recognized as a hub for these industries in India.
