Europe's AI Job Boom Led by East, Germany Struggles with Gender Gap

Europe's eastern front is leading in AI job growth, with Ukraine, Lithuania, and Bulgaria at the helm. Meanwhile, a recent study by Randstad delves into equity in AI workplace roles, highlighting a significant gender gap and the need for upskilling efforts in Germany.

The Randstad report, 'Understanding Talent Scarcity: AI & Equity', sheds light on the gender imbalance in AI roles. In Germany, a staggering 82% of software positions are held by men, with a 64% gap in AI-specific roles. This disparity is not unique to Germany; globally, 71% of AI development and programming roles are held by men.

Germany, despite seeing an 83% increase in AI jobs, ranks low at 82nd worldwide in AI job growth. Companies are investing in AI training to boost employee loyalty and gain a market advantage. Nearly half of large companies and over a quarter of medium-sized firms are already using AI and upskilling staff accordingly.

To address AI talent scarcity and the gender gap, companies are urged to invest in further training and build internal expertise. This not only helps combat the shortage but also promotes diversity, which can lead to less biased AI outcomes.
