Microsoft Shifts Gears on Cybersecurity Collaboration with Europe

European cybersecurity partnership fortified by Microsoft's collaboration efforts - European partnership with Microsoft strengthens for heightened cybersecurity efforts

In a recent blog post, Microsoft President Brad Smith revealed their new initiative to work hand-in-hand with European governments to beef up cybersecurity. This intensified collaboration includes strengthening the exchange of AI-based threat information, boosting cybersecurity capabilities, and expanding joint efforts to counteract cyberattacks and dismantle criminal networks.

The initiative, known as the "European Security Program," aims to bolster cybersecurity across Europe. Smith stated at a virtual press conference that Microsoft is now supplying "more quality" and "speedier" threat intelligence to European authorities due to their improved tracking of the "malicious use" of artificial intelligence (AI) models. In response, Microsoft is implementing "proactive" measures to keep the culprits of threats from exploiting their products.

Microsoft has also decided to deepen their cooperation with European law enforcement agencies to nab and dismantle online criminal activities. The increasing power of AI has become a catalyst for danger, with threat actors engaging in more complex activities.

Although Smith didn't disclose the specifics, he announced the addition of more personnel and resources to bolster cybersecurity efforts in Europe.

This large-scale cooperation isn't a new thing — in May, Microsoft kicked off a joint operation with these same partners to neutralize the Russian virus, "Lumma Stealer." Microsoft blocked or deleted around 2,300 internet addresses that the virus was reliant on.
