Epic Games Store Hits 29M iOS Installations, Cites Apple's Improved Guidelines

Epic Games, the company behind the popular game Fortnite, has made significant strides in expanding its iOS presence. The CEO, Tim Sweeney, has revealed that the Epic Games Store on iOS has reached 29 million installations by the end of 2024. Meanwhile, the company continues to criticize Apple's practices, claiming they violate the Digital Markets Act.

Initially, CEO Tim Sweeney aimed for 100 million installations on iOS. While the target was not met, the company has seen a substantial reduction in user drop-off during installation. Apple's implementation of EU guidelines has contributed to this, decreasing the drop-off rate from 65% to 25%.

Epic Games has also simplified the installation process on iOS. It now takes only six steps to install the Epic Games Store, a significant improvement from the previous 15 steps. This simplification is likely to further boost installations and user engagement.

However, Epic Games still faces challenges on other platforms. Google's installation process for the Epic Games Store on Android requires 12 steps, which Epic Games considers illegal. The company continues to advocate for fairer practices across all platforms.
