Entergy Texas & ENGIE Team Up for 1 GW Green Hydrogen Plant by 2030
Entergy Texas, led by President and CEO Eliecer Viamontes, is expanding its power generation capacity and grid reliability in Southeast Texas. The company is collaborating with ENGIE on sustainable power systems, including hydrogen-capable turbines, to meet regional growth and energy demand. This initiative is part of Entergy Texas' plan to invest over $2.5 billion by 2024 for a more resilient and sustainable energy future.
Eric De Caluwe, Managing Director of Flexible Generation & Hydrogen at ENGIE North America, sees hydrogen as a potential game-changer for Texas' energy landscape. ENGIE is developing a 350 MW green hydrogen plant in Entergy Texas' service area, expected to be operational by 2026. This project, with subsequent phases aiming to grow it to 1 GW by 2030, is a testament to the collaboration between Entergy Texas and ENGIE. The first phase alone requires an investment of over $500 million and will generate up to 500 jobs during construction and 40 full-time positions.
Viamontes expressed pride in partnering with industry leaders like ENGIE to support customers and communities. Entergy Texas, a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation, provides electricity to approximately 499,000 customers in 27 counties, and together with ENGIE North America, they have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore sustainable power solutions.
Entergy Texas, with its parent company Entergy Corporation, powers life for 3 million customers across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. The collaboration with ENGIE on the green hydrogen plant is a significant step towards a more sustainable energy future, not just for Entergy Texas' customers, but for the entire region.
