Streamlining Border Controls: A Call for Modern Technologies by Police Union

Enhanced Border Control: Law Enforcement Association Calls for Advanced Technology Investment - Enhancement of Border Control Technology: Police Union Urges for Advanced Tools

Admittedly, it's high time our forces received a technological boost - like those already being utilized by the Bavarian border police, Roßkopf insists. He points out the need for drone technology, cutting-edge mobile control points with top-notch license plate recognition, devices for exterior vehicle detection, and advanced surveillance systems for "green borders". Such hardware would not only cut down on personnel but would also be beneficial for our overwhelmed reserve police and mobile units.

With the current state of overtime, Roßkopf warns, matters are only going to worsen if they aren't rectified. Shortages in deployment could unfortunately become a reality, especially at places like train stations and airports.

The constant, boots-on-the-ground approach is unsustainable in the long run, he emphasizes. "We simply cannot keep up these border checks for months at a stretch," he states. In fact, technology could significantly ease the burden of officers patrolling the country's borders away from traditional checkpoints.

The German Federal Police has toyed with these advanced technologies since 2018, yet nothing has materialized. Roßkopf denounces this inaction. In fact, Europe is ahead of Germany in this regard, with countries like the Netherlands and Romania leading the way.

Roßkopf supports measures that regulate illegal immigration. However, he questions the feasibility of these efforts given the extensive workload imposed on the Federal Police. In his words, "The question is, how long can we maintain these high personnel output levels?"

As a consequence of the strict border controls that have recently been enforced, Roßkopf expects significant traffic disruptions, particularly for holidaymakers who might find themselves stuck in traffic jams.

While the priority is to minimize the effect on commuter and goods traffic, a direct result of the increased border controls will be delays, according to Roßkopf. The new Federal Minister of the Interior, Alexander Dobrindt, recently announced stricter border controls, which aim to reduce refugee numbers by stationing more federal police officers at the border and rejecting asylum seekers.

  1. Roßkopf believes the deployment of drone technology, mobile control points, exterior vehicle detection devices, and advanced surveillance systems could cut down on personnel and benefit the reserve police and mobile units, as they are currently overworked.
  2. Despite the German Federal Police experimenting with advanced technologies since 2018, Roßkopf denounces the lack of action in implementing them, citing Europe's progress in this area, with countries like the Netherlands and Romania leading the way.
  3. In a call for modern technologies, Roßkopf supports measures that regulate illegal immigration but questions the feasibility of maintaining high personnel output levels given the extensive workload imposed on the Federal Police.

  5. Roßkopf insists that if the boots-on-the-ground approach continues without technologically-aided border controls, it will become unsustainable, potentially leading to shortages in deployment at places like train stations and airports.
