Modernizing Cleaning Services: How Ülemiste Centre's Data-Driven Approach Revolutionized Efficiency

Two years ago, Ülemiste Centre took a giant leap forward by implementing the trendsetting Tork Vision Clean solution, making it the first in the Baltics to embrace data-driven cleaning. This innovative approach has transformed the center's cleaning service to be not only more budget-friendly but also tailored to visitor needs.

The innovated system collects real-time data on visitor flows and supply refill levels, paving the way for a more strategic and targeted cleaning process. Reducing unnecessary labor and material costs, while simultaneously improving the quality of service.

Tiia Nõmm, Head of Marketing and Responsible Business at Ülemiste Centre, admitted that while the previous cleaning model was sufficient, there was a call for improvement when it came to efficiency. "We followed a set schedule, but now our cleaning staff respond to actual needs," she explained. "With this new solution, there's no longer a need to check every dispenser, not even on the off chance," she added, mentioning that as a result, the shopping and entertainment center has managed to reduce cleaning service hours by 15%, equivalent to roughly 100 hours per month, freeing up valuable time for other cleaning tasks.

Piret Veski, Marketing and Communications Specialist at Stell Eesti AS, delved into the intricacies of the system, explaining that it relies on sensor-equipped dispensers that measure both visiting frequency and hygiene product refill levels. "Take, for example, if certain restrooms experience an extraordinary number of visitors during peak hours, the system sends an early warning to staff, enabling them to respond before the situation becomes inconvenient for visitors," she said, emphasizing that it's not only about work optimization but about providing an exceptional visitor experience.

Nõmm underscored the importance of cleaning efficiency in a center where restrooms are visited nearly 800,000 times in six months and up to 6,000 visitors per day during peak hours. "The Tork Vision Clean solution has helped us drastically cut cleaning-related costs. In one year, we've managed to save 74 liters of soap and 185,000 doses, reducing our costs on hand and toilet paper by 26,000 meters and 75,000 meters, respectively. This amounts to enough supplies for over 100,000 customers," she explained.

Veski emphasized that modern solutions like Tork Vision Clean provide businesses with a competitive advantage in the market. "Data-driven systems such as Tork Vision Clean allow companies to keep track of consumption patterns and respond automatically to changing demands, ensuring a more efficient service delivery."

Data-driven cleaning solutions like Tork Vision Clean advance the effectiveness, cost-efficiency, and innovativeness of shopping centers' cleaning services via several key components:

  1. Resource Optimization and Labor Savings: The solution replaces set cleaning schedules with real-time, demand-driven workflows, eliminating unnecessary checks and refills. By identifying when dispenser replenishment is required via sensors, labor hours spent on routine inspections are reduced, allowing staff to focus on high-priority tasks, resulting in hundreds of hours of annual savings.
  2. Consistent Cleanliness: Empty dispensers are a common complaint among visitors, but real-time alerts and the system's capacity for maintaining a 99% dispenser availability help facilities minimize negative guest experiences and maintain hygiene standards without overwhelming staff.
  3. Reduced Waste and Operational Costs: Precision in handling inventory prevents overstocking and unnecessary dispenser replacements, lowering supply expenses. High-capacity dispensers like Tork OptiServe® Coreless cut down on storage needs and restocking frequency, while Vision Clean's compatibility permits smooth integration with existing infrastructure.
  4. Enhanced User Experience: Features like accessible and hygienic dispensers (e.g., Tork Reflex® for easy wiping) align with inclusivity standards, improving usability for diverse visitors and contributing to overall visitor satisfaction and repeat foot traffic.

Combining real-time data analysis with optimised workflows, such systems ensure both operational efficiency and cost savings in high-traffic commercial spaces.
