The global electric vehicle (EV) market experienced a significant surge in July 2025, with battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) leading the charge. According to recent data, BEVs accounted for 65.3% of all EV sales between January and July 2025, marking a 2.6 percentage point increase from the same period the previous year.
The rise in BEV sales was evident in the global rankings, with Chinese models claiming the majority of the top 10 best-selling BEVs in July 2025. The Tesla Model Y maintained its position as the best-selling BEV globally, but saw a 2.3 percentage point drop in market share, down to 7.6%.
In second place, the Geely Geome Xingyuan, a BEV, recorded 44,286 deliveries in July 2025, making it the second best-selling BEV globally. The Geome Xingyuan's popularity is attributed to its competitive pricing, advanced battery technology, strong local brand presence in China, and attractive features that appeal to urban consumers. The Geome Xingyuan represented 4.1% of all BEV volumes in July 2025, its highest percentage since arriving on the market.
The BYD Yuan Plus followed closely in seventh place, with 145,382 deliveries and a 2% share. Notably, the Tesla Model 3, a BEV, saw a year-on-year decrease in deliveries by 7.1% to 31,598 units in July 2025. The BYD Song Pro, a PHEV, saw a 28.6% drop in sales in July 2025, with its market share weakening from 3.9% to 2.5%. On the other hand, the BYD Seal 6 saw a 13.9% increase in PHEV deliveries in July 2025, with 25,307 units sold and a 4% market share.
