Embraer Jet Crash in Kazakhstan: 38 Dead, 29 Injured
An Embraer jet, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, has crashed in Kazakhstan, resulting in 38 fatalities and 29 serious injuries. The plane was flying from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Chechnya, Russia, with 67 people on board, including 42 Azerbaijani, 16 Russian, 6 Kazakh, and 3 Kyrgyz citizens.
The aircraft, an Embraer E190AR, was diverted due to fog and crashed near Aktau Airport. It was capable of carrying up to 114 passengers, with a maximum range of 4500 kilometers and a cruising speed of 870 km/h. A government commission has been established in Kazakhstan to investigate the crash and assist the families of the deceased and injured. The flight recorder has been found, and data is being read out to determine the cause of the accident.
This is not the first recent aviation incident. On November 25, 2023, a Boeing 737-400 operated by Swiftair on behalf of DHL Aviation crashed in Lithuania, resulting in one fatality and three injuries. The cause of that accident is still unclear, with theories including bird strike, bad weather, and potential damage from an air defense missile.
The Kazakh government has pledged to cooperate with Azerbaijan in the investigation of the plane crash. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on supporting the families affected by this tragic event.
