Elon Musk's xAI Unveils Grok 4 Heavy, Moonshot AI Introduces Kimi K2: Revolutionizing AI Performance
xAI, a startup led by Elon Musk, has unveiled Grok 4 Heavy, a multi-agent AI model showcasing enhanced performance. Meanwhile, Moonshot AI has introduced Kimi K2, an open-source model boasting impressive capabilities.
Grok 4 Heavy, developed using xAI's own infrastructure including the supercomputer Colossus, is available in two versions: Grok 4 and Grok 4 Heavy. Grok 4 Heavy, with tools, scored an impressive 44.4% on the Humanity's Last Exam, outperforming Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro with tools.
Kimi K2, built on a mixture-of-experts (MoE) architecture with a trillion parameters and 32 billion activated parameters, was launched by Moonshot AI. It surpassed Claude Opus 4 on two benchmarks and outperformed OpenAI's GPT-4.1 in several industry metrics. Moonshot AI claims Kimi K2 excels in frontier knowledge, mathematics, coding, and general agentic tasks.
Grok 4, without tools, scored 25.4% on Humanity's Last Exam, outperforming Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro and OpenAI's o3. Elon Musk claims Grok 4 Heavy can work on problems simultaneously and outperforms PhD level in academic questions.
Both xAI's Grok 4 Heavy and Moonshot AI's Kimi K2 demonstrate cutting-edge AI capabilities. Grok 4 Heavy is available via a USD 300-per-month subscription called SuperGrok Heavy, offering early access to the model and upcoming features. These developments signal a new frontier in AI performance and accessibility.
