Effortlessly functioning glass sunroof mechanism on the high-end $130K Cadillac Escalade IQ revealed.

The 2026 Cadillac Escalade IQ, a luxurious electric land yacht with a price tag of over $130,000, boasts a panoramic fixed-glass roof and a unique sunshade system. Journalist Joel Feder had the opportunity to road-test this vehicle for a week.

The Escalade IQ's panoramic fixed-glass roof offers a spacious and breezy cabin experience when the sunshine isn't too intense. However, the sunshade system, which is not a standard feature and needs to be installed as an accessory, has been criticised for its undercooked design and off-putting appearance for a high-end luxury car.

The sunshade in the Escalade IQ is a portable, folding contraption that requires manual operation. While it can help manage sunlight entering the cabin, it is not as effective as a power retractable roof in blocking midday sun. Furthermore, the sunshade is prone to falling off its plastic clips and getting damaged, especially when tossed around in the cargo hold.

Cadillac offers an accessory sunshade for customers who want it, and it is easy to install. However, it does not look like something that should be OEM on a high-end luxury vehicle.

For those seeking a luxury electric SUV with a retractable sunroof, Cadillac offers the 2026 VISTIQ model. This alternative model features a panoramic dual-pane retractable sunroof with power sunshade and a third-row fixed glass roof, blending luxury with the option for an openable sunroof.

The Escalade IQ's roof is largely made of glass, which is darkly tinted and treated to provide shade and UV filtration. The tint on the glass roof is darker than limo tint, and it also has an infrared reflective coating that reflects the sun's heat.

Despite the criticisms, the Escalade IQ's design choices prioritise structural integrity, noise reduction, and climate control for the luxury electric SUV, while still offering advanced sunshade technology to manage cabin lighting. However, corporate pictures of the Escalade IQ's sunshade in place are not available.

The Escalade IQ's sunshade system, not a standard feature and requiring manual operation, has been dubiously criticized for its underwhelming design and unsightly appearance in a luxury car. A more suitable alternative might be the 2026 VISTIQ model from Cadillac, featuring a panoramic dual-pane retractable sunroof with power sunshade, offering a blend of luxury and sunroof functionality.
