EDF introduces UK's first solar power tariff without standing charges, pricing a 10-panel system at £8,495
In an exciting development, EDF, a leading energy provider, has unveiled the Empower Exclusive tariff, a revolutionary product bundle tailored for homeowners installing solar panels and batteries. Philippe Commaret, Managing Director of Customers at EDF, expressed his excitement about bringing this solar product bundle to the market, aiming to help more customers enjoy the benefits of solar panels and significant reductions on household bills.
The Empower Exclusive tariff is designed to combat energy price rises by charging only for the energy used. This tariff offers a no-standing-charge option, allowing homeowners to avoid the fixed daily fees that can accumulate significantly, totalling up to £292 annually even if no energy is consumed.
The solar panel system package, priced at £8,495, includes a 5kW hybrid inverter, 10 solar panels, and a battery with a capacity of 5.32kW. The package covers installation, scaffolding, and a 10-year warranty on batteries and inverters, as well as a 25-year warranty on solar panels.
EDF is offering a £500 discount on new solar panel and solar battery installations for the first 500 customers, with no upfront payments required until the installation is complete. The offer is available to new customers, but eligibility for the Empower Exclusive tariff should be checked before applying on EDF's website.
The Empower Exclusive tariff offers a daily three-hour window (1am to 4am) for discounted, zero-carbon electricity to optimize battery charging. By generating and storing electricity with this tariff, homeowners can reduce reliance on the grid during peak hours.
According to EDF, homeowners installing a solar panel and battery package with this tariff could save up to £800 annually compared to standard variable tariffs. With the Empower Exclusive tariff, homeowners can not only save on their energy bills but also contribute to reducing carbon emissions.
