Toyota hasn't ventured into compact cars with dual engines yet, but the Aygo X is a game-changer. Don't be fooled by its miniature size - it shares the same "Toyota Global New Architecture" as the larger Yaris. While the Yaris already boasts a hybrid powertrain, it was a no-brainer for Toyota to replicate the same setup in the Aygo X.
The revamped Aygo X measures 3.78 meters in length. With the facelift, the headlights have been neatly updated, making it a breeze to spot the latest model. The grille and hood have also undergone minor adjustments, with some engineering required to accommodate the new powertrain. The front end had to be extended by roughly eight centimeters to house the powertrain components effectively. The battery stacks are now stacked beneath the rear seats lengthwise, while the starter battery is nestled under the trunk, ensuring the cargo volume of 231 liters remains untouched.
Elevated Power and Efficiency
Get ready for a punchier driving experience with the Aygo X. The previous 1-liter, three-cylinder engine has been replaced by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a staggering 92 horsepower, offering a whopping 20 horsepower more than its predecessor. Also onboard is an 80-horsepower electric motor. Though the two power sources can't simply be added together for optimal performance, Toyota rates the system power at 116 horsepower - the same as the Yaris. Fuel economy isn't sacrificed, with quoted consumption sitting at a respectable four liters per 100 kilometers - a significant decrease from its gasoline-powered predecessor.
Toyota promises increased comfort via noise-absorbing measures in the dashboard and hood, a redesigned exhaust system, and an underbody cover. Additional soundproofing and thicker glass can be found depending on the trim level.

Light Refreshes Inside
The Aygo X's interior hasn't undergone massive changes, but it does boast a new digital instrument cluster featuring a 7-inch display. Here, users can monitor the interaction between the electric motor and the gasoline engine, along with the battery status. Standard features now include two USB-C ports, and the mechanical handbrake has been replaced with an electric parking brake. Wireless smartphone charging, over-the-air updates, and a digital key are becoming available for the first time or are included as standard.
Of course, an "GR Sport" version of the Aygo X can't be far behind. This edition will don a unique two-tone paint job with a mustard yellow body and a black bonnet. The characteristic waffle grille, exclusive alloy wheels, and a sport-tuned suspension will also distinguish the GR Sport Aygo X.
It remains to be seen if Toyota will keep the hybrid version of the Aygo X under the €20,000 mark. The initial pricing starts at €18,090. With an automatic transmission, it creeps close to the €20,000 mark (€19,490). The four-seater hybrid model, which is still produced in the Czech plant in Kolin, is set to hit the market later this year.
