Dusseldorf's Rhine-Kirche Nearly Obliterated by Drone Display Mishap

In the heart of Germany, the city of Düsseldorf recently played host to an awe-inspiring spectacle that lit up the Rhine meadows - the AO Multimedia & Drones show. The event, which took place on Saturday, July 12th, attracted thousands of onlookers who gathered from various vantage points along the Lower Rhine embankment, Apollo meadows, Rhine bridges, and Rhine fair.

The show, which cost over 120,000 euros, featured a light show consisting of 1000 drones that soared to heights of up to 300 meters, spanned widths of up to 150 meters, and delved into depths of up to 80 meters. The drones formed intricate motifs in the sky, including a heart-shaped formation and representations of the fair and the carousel.

The Cologne band, Höhner, provided the live soundtrack for the event, while the Club 111 of the CC was involved in the organisation. Photos of the event were captured by Karina Hermsen.

Critics of the New Year's Eve fireworks have long advocated for a central, environmentally friendly alternative, and the AO Multimedia & Drones show is being considered as a potential replacement. The show is set to repeat on Friday, July 18th.

While the financial backers of the show were not specified, it is common for drone shows to be financed through sponsorships from companies in drone technology, multimedia, and related sectors. These sponsors provide funding or in-kind support in exchange for branding opportunities, as seen in other similar events such as the Aerial Cities event, which secured 20 sponsors and partners.

As the world continues to explore innovative ways to celebrate and entertain, it's clear that drone shows like the AO Multimedia & Drones in Düsseldorf are set to become a staple in the event calendar, combining technology, art, and music to create unforgettable experiences.
