Rhine Carnival Introduces Aerial Displays via Drones as Novel Attraction - Drone displays becoming a captivating spectacle along the Rhine river
The Rhine Carnival in Düsseldorf is set to kick off today, and this year's event promises an exciting addition to its lineup: a series of drone light shows that will illuminate the skies over the Rhine River.
These shows, scheduled for July 12 and July 18, are claimed to be the largest drone light shows in Germany. A total of 1,000 drones, referred to as "flying lamps," will take to the skies, each equipped with small lights capable of producing a variety of colours.
On the first Saturday (July 12), the Höhner band will perform live at the carnival, and the drone show will depict Düsseldorf's iconic wheel (Radschläger). A week later, on July 18, the second drone show will feature the Rhine Tower. Both shows will create awe-inspiring images that will be visible from all sides, including the opposite bank of the Rhine and the Rhine bridges.
The maximum height of some images will reach nearly 300 meters, and the width and depth can extend up to 150 meters and 80 meters respectively. This spectacular display is expected to be visible from all angles, offering a unique and unforgettable experience for attendees.
While fireworks are also planned for future Rhine Carnivals, the drone shows are an additional attraction that sets this year's event apart. The weather forecast looks favourable for the scheduled drone show dates, despite certain weather-related limitations for drones.
Over the ten carnival days, more than 300 showmen will present their rides and beer tents on approximately 165,000 square meter festival grounds. The classic Ferris wheel is one of the attractions at the Rhine Carnival, promising a traditional touch amidst the modern technological marvels.
The drone shows are not intended as a replacement for the traditional fireworks at the Rhine Carnival, but rather as an exciting addition to the festivities. The Rhine Carnival in Düsseldorf will run until July 20, offering visitors a chance to experience this unique blend of tradition and innovation.
In the midst of the technological innovation at the Rhine Carnival, a series of vocational training opportunities have been announced for attendees. These programs, scheduled for July 12 and July 18, will offer workshops on drone technology, giving participants the chance to learn about the intricacies behind the largest drone light shows in Germany. Meanwhile, the carnival's traditional attractions, such as the classic Ferris wheel, will coexist with these modern gadgets, creating a unique blend of old and new within the community.
