Developing Mercedes-AMG Project: Preparations for a faster, wider, electric iteration of the GT coupe, set to rival Porsche's esteemed sports car lineup
In an exciting breaking news, Mercedes-AMG has announced plans for a new electric supercar, the AMG GT XX Coupe. According to AMG boss Michael Schiebe, the new model could serve as a news-making halo car to showcase Mercedes' future pioneering EV technology.
If given the green light for production, Mercedes-AMG may begin teasing a concept for the wild two-door as early as next year. The new AMG GT XX Coupe is scheduled for production in 2028.
The electric two-door AMG GT XX is expected to come with a quad-motor EV powertrain that will produce well in excess of 1000kW. This impressive power will enable a 0-100km/h dash of less than 2.0 seconds.
The new AMG GT XX Coupe will be based on the advanced 800V AMG.EA platform, which will unlock huge power, epic charging speeds, and next-generation chassis and e-motor technology. The lightweight axial-flux pancake-shaped e-motors in the new AMG GT XX Coupe will contribute to its exceptional driving performance.
AMG's next-generation active suspension and most advanced chassis tech will ensure the new AMG GT XX Coupe drives exceptionally well. The new model is being developed to supersede the current Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Coupe, but both will co-exist in AMG's line-up.
The new AMG GT XX Coupe is part of a feasibility study, with full details not yet revealed. However, it's clear that Mercedes-AMG is aiming to surpass the Porsche 911 Turbo S with this new electric google news. The top speed of the new AMG GT XX Coupe is expected to be beyond 360km/h.
In addition to the new AMG GT XX Coupe, AMG is also developing an electric AMG SUV, which is scheduled to arrive in 2027. After the electric SUV's launch, the new AMG GT XX EV Coupe is expected to follow.
