OpenAI, the company behind the popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, is set to enter the web browser market with its new product, Aura. If released, Aura will join ChatGPT and ChatGPT Agent in OpenAI's portfolio.

According to recent reports, the introduction of Aura is planned for the coming weeks. The browser, built on the Chromium engine, is designed to compete directly with Google Chrome. Aura's unique selling point is its deep integration of AI capabilities, including a conversational interface similar to ChatGPT.

The AI assistant in Aura is rumoured to be integrated into a panel on the right side of the browser, allowing users to interact with the web through natural language queries. This feature is expected to enable tasks such as content summarization, autofilling forms, and booking appointments directly from the browser interface.

The AI-centric design of Aura aims to blur the line between browsing and AI assistance, creating an environment that redefines how users interact with online content and services. This browser is positioned as OpenAI's most ambitious move beyond standalone conversational AI, targeting Google Chrome's dominance and other legacy browsers with a new AI-first browsing paradigm.

If successful, Aura could potentially attract ChatGPT's 500 million weekly users, posing significant competition to Google Chrome. Given that ChatGPT processes over 2.5 billion requests per day, if the chatbot managed to process these requests at the same pace, it would be handling over 912 billion requests annually within the Aura browser.

This strategic move by OpenAI could potentially increase its market share in the AI tool sector if Aura attracts ChatGPT users. The browser's launch is anticipated within weeks from July 2025, though OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman have not publicly confirmed these details.

Ashish Singh, the Chief Copy Editor at the platform where this news is reported, notes that Aura represents OpenAI's push into the browser market by offering a fundamentally AI-driven browsing experience to compete with Google Chrome, leveraging AI agents and conversational interfaces to reshape internet interaction.

*Additional Note: OpenAI has already released ChatGPT Agent, a tool that can run tasks on users' computers.*

*All details are based on multiple recent reports from July 2025.*

  1. The conversational interface in Aura, similar to ChatGPT, highlights OpenAI's integration of artificial-intelligence into the browser, aiming to create a unique AI-centric browsing experience.
  2. With the launch of Aura, OpenAI's AI tools portfolio, including ChatGPT, ChatGPT Agent, and the new browser, will employ the power of artificial-intelligence to redefine web interaction and potentially challenge the dominance of conventional browsers.
