Cybersecurity Firm CyberCert Collaborates with Huntress to Enhance Small and Medium Businesses' Cybersecurity Resilience
In a bid to bolster cybersecurity for small and medium businesses (SMEs) in Australia, Huntress and CyberCert have teamed up to deliver the SMB1001 cybersecurity standard through Huntress' partner ecosystem.
The SMB1001 standard, subsidized by Huntress, is designed to offer a tangible cybersecurity outcome for SMEs, addressing a significant gap in the market. Peter Maynard, Co-Founder and CEO of CyberCert, explains that the SMB1001 CyberCert standard aims to provide cybersecurity standards for SMEs without dedicated IT and security experts.
The partnership offers SMB1001 certifications to Huntress managed service provider (MSP) partners, who can choose between Bronze, Silver, and Gold Certificates to certify their customers' cybersecurity posture according to the SMB1001 standard. Huntress has also subsidized a number of SMB1001 certification subscriptions to help partners guide their customers on a cybersecurity improvement journey.
The SMB1001 standard does not focus on bundling products for differentiation, but rather on providing real cybersecurity outcomes for small and medium businesses. It offers a pathway for SMEs to align with more recognized frameworks or standards like the Essential Eight or ISO 27001.
The collaboration is expected to provide a win-win strategy for MSPs and their small and medium business customers. MSPs can deliver a needed service and open up sales opportunities, while SMEs receive a fit-for-purpose security uplift and a cybersecurity certification.
According to Appleton, partners that can demonstrate value and real cybersecurity outcomes for their customers will differentiate themselves in the market. The partnership between Huntress and CyberCert is a step towards enhancing cybersecurity resilience of businesses in Australia.
It's important to note that the SMB1001 standard is not intended to replace recognized frameworks or standards, but can be used in conjunction with or as a pathway to them. Partners also have the choice of certificate bundles for customer use.
The investment from Huntress will enable partners to certify themselves to the Gold certification. However, there is no publicly available specific information on which SMEs in Australia received SMB1001 certificates through the collaboration of Huntress and CyberCert, nor on which Huntress partners acquired these certificates.
The SMB1001 standard, with its multiple tiers, provides structured cyber resilience and compliance solutions at a lower cost compared to ISO/IEC 27001 certification. Unlike ISO/IEC 27001, SMB1001 offers a more affordable and streamlined approach to cybersecurity for SMEs.
In summary, the partnership between Huntress and CyberCert aims to help partners differentiate by providing them with the means to demonstrate tangible cybersecurity outcomes for their customers, ultimately enhancing the cybersecurity resilience of businesses in Australia.
