Creative Coder Transforms Photos into Etch A Sketch Art
Tekavou, a creative coder, has developed a unique hack that transforms real-world photos into Etch A Sketch-style art. Initially, the process relied on a Raspberry Pi for processing, but it was later upgraded to a Mac Mini M4 Pro for enhanced speed.
The hack, named Teka-Cam, begins with capturing a photo. This image is then converted to black and white for simplicity. Using a modified Chinese Postman Algorithm, Tekavou creates a continuous SVG path from the photo. This path is then interpreted by a Raspberry Pi Zero W 2, along with a camera module, Inkplate 6, and rotary encoders, to produce a drawing that mimics the style of an Etch A Sketch.
The resulting artwork is a unique blend of graph theory and art. Tekavou has also created TekaSketch, which can convert videos into similar Etch A Sketch animations. Currently, Tekavou is working on improving these hacks, with video support being a key focus.
Tekavou's innovative hacks, Teka-Cam and TekaSketch, bring a new twist to digital art by transforming real-world images and videos into nostalgic Etch A Sketch drawings. With ongoing improvements, including video support, these creations continue to push the boundaries of art and technology.
