Court Clarifies ÖVP, Senior Citizen's Association Relationship; MP Calls for Age Discrimination Ban
The Federal Administrative Court has ruled that the Austrian Senior Citizen's Association is not part of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). Meanwhile, the ÖVP has renamed its senior sub-organization to 'ÖVP Senioren', with 'Seniorenbund' now referring only to the association. The Senior Citizen's Association has been promised earlier involvement in pension increase negotiations, but critics argue that the current resolution does not fully compensate for inflation for pensions above €2,500 per month.
The ÖVP's renaming of its senior sub-organization to 'ÖVP Senioren' has clarified the distinction between the party's official senior organization and the independent Senior Citizen's Association. The Association, which received funding from the Non-Profit Organization (NPO) fund during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been promised earlier involvement in pension increase negotiations. However, ÖVP MP Peter Korosec has criticized the current resolution for only fully compensating inflation for pensions up to €2,500 per month. He demands more intensive involvement of the Senior Citizen's Association in these negotiations and advocates for an age discrimination ban in the law, including zero tolerance for age discrimination in digitalization and AI.
The Federal Administrative Court's ruling and the ÖVP's renaming of its senior sub-organization have clarified the relationship between the party and the Senior Citizen's Association. While the Association has been promised earlier involvement in pension increase negotiations, critics like Peter Korosec argue that the current resolution does not fully address the needs of seniors with higher pensions. Korosec's call for an age discrimination ban and zero tolerance in digitalization and AI highlights the importance of protecting seniors in an increasingly digital world.
