Costco's Remarkable Growth: On Track to Join $1T Club

Costco Wholesale, the retail giant, has shown remarkable growth since its inception in 1985. With a unique business model and resilient performance, it's poised for further expansion.

Costco's success can be attributed to its innovative approach. It generates most of its profits from membership fees, enabling it to sell products at low or break-even margins. This strategy has allowed the company to expand rapidly. From just 11 warehouses in 1985, Costco now boasts 891, serving over 136 million cardholders worldwide. Annual revenue has grown at a CAGR of 15% to a staggering $254.4 billion. An initial $1,000 investment in Costco's IPO has swelled to nearly $569,000, with annual dividends exceeding $3,100. Despite macroeconomic challenges, Costco has consistently grown its comparable store sales, warehouse count, and cardholder base from FY 2020 to FY 2024.

Analysts predict Costco's revenue and EPS to grow by 8% and 9% respectively in FY 2025. If it maintains a CAGR of 10% EPS growth over the next eight years and trades at a P/E ratio of 30, its stock could surge nearly 50% to $1,420 in the next decade. With a current market cap of $420 billion, Costco Wholesale is on track to potentially join the $1 trillion market cap club, following in the footsteps of tech giants like Microsoft, Nvidia, and Amazon, which were the first to reach this milestone.

Costco's remarkable growth trajectory, driven by its distinctive business model and consistent performance, positions it as a strong contender to reach a $1 trillion market cap in the near future. Its ability to navigate macroeconomic headwinds and maintain growth makes it a formidable player in the retail sector.
