Confidence abounds at Adobe with their generative AI video technology; they challenge users to complete a movie initiation by director Sam Finn
In an exciting new initiative, Adobe has launched a collaborative project called The Unfinished Film, an AI-driven video that invites creators to download the original file and use Adobe Firefly to create their own versions of the story.
The film, a captivating blend of animation and black-and-white sketches, mixes flashes of different styles, offering a unique canvas for remixes. Adobe Firefly, the company's latest AI video-style software, is now available to download on the iOS App Store, Google Play Store, and online.
Once downloaded, open the app and sign in with your Adobe account to access the unfinished film sequence. With Firefly's generative AI tools, you can remix, reframe, and reimagine the film, directing and designing your own cinematic vision. The software supports moodboarding, style transfer, collaborative ideation (via Firefly Boards), and integrates with third-party AI models like Google Veo3 and Imagen3, offering cinematic control over your edits.
The process is straightforward. After downloading Adobe Firefly, create or sign into your Adobe account within the app. Download the unfinished film sequence made available by Adobe, and then use Firefly’s generative AI tools to remix video, audio, and visual aspects. You can optionally use tools like Firefly Boards for collaborative ideas and third-party AI models for enhanced effects. Finally, export or share your finished or remixed version of the film, with attribution credited through Content Credentials.
It's important to note that Adobe Firefly requires iOS version 17.4 or later, or Android 9.0 Pie or later, and can also be accessed as a web app on browsers like Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari (though Safari’s lockdown mode is unsupported).
Adobe's blog post states that creators don't want automation, but rather tools that spark new ideas, speed up workflows, and preserve creative control. This project is intended as a creative collaboration that amplifies human imagination with AI tools, rather than automating creativity.
Adobe has reached out to several creators to share their takes on remixing the film, including creative director Simen Cohen and filmmaker and content creator Keenan Lam. Hillary K. Grigonis, who leads the US coverage for Digital Camera World with over a decade of experience writing about cameras and technology, is also part of this project.
Every AI-generated content from Firefly uses Content Credentials with an AI label, ensuring transparency and attribution. The AI database used by Firefly is based on licensed content, making it safe for commercial use. Adobe is using this community storytelling project to demonstrate how Firefly allows creators to shift the narrative.
The film contains scientifically impossible scenes such as upside-down cities and flying taxis, offering a fascinating playground for creative minds. So, download Adobe Firefly today and start creating your own version of The Unfinished Film.
