In a significant move to enhance mobile connectivity in Lüchow-Dannenberg, Vodafone GmbH has put a new mobile station in Lemgow into operation. This initiative aims to eliminate a gap in mobile broadband coverage and improve services for residents and businesses.
The new mobile station in Lemgow operates on the 5G network, enabling emergency calls and disaster warnings. It connects 3,000 residents and guests to Vodafone's mobile broadband highway, marking a significant step forward in the district's digital infrastructure.
Vodafone's technical director, Tanja Richter, emphasised the importance of mobile networks for the quality of life and local economy. She stated, "Mobile networks are essential for the quality of life and local economy."
In addition to the new mobile station, 17 other stations in the district already have the broadband technology 5G on board. Vodafone currently operates 27 mobile stations in the district, all equipped with the mobile broadband technology LTE.
The remaining mobile stations in the district will be gradually converted into 5G+ locations and upgraded. New mobile stations are being built point-wise, and existing locations are being expanded by additional antennas. This expansion is part of Vodafone's broader strategy to compete in Germany's telecommunications market by providing robust mobile broadband services and bridging the digital divide in less urbanised districts.
Vodafone's 5G network reaches over 90% of the population in Germany, and the company plans to expand its mobile broadband highways for LTE and 5G+ in the coming years. This expansion includes increasing the density of 4G LTE base stations to ensure better coverage in rural and underserved areas.
Moreover, Vodafone is driving infrastructure expansion in Germany, reaching two-thirds of all German households with gigabit speed in its nationwide cable-fiber network. The company aims to be carbon neutral by 2025 and net-zero emissions by 2040, and today, Vodafone Germany covers 100% of its electricity needs with renewable energies.
The new antennas at the Lemgow station support the latest variants of emergency call technology AML and disaster warning system Cell Broadcast. Cell Broadcast warns the surrounding population via smartphone in case of danger situations like large fires, gas explosions, floods. AML automatically transmits the location of the caller to the emergency control center when calling "112".
