Revamped Review: The Best AI Writing Tool for Non-Native English Speakers in Academia
Choosing the Right AI Writing Aid: Balance Correction Quality and Quantity for Optimal Results!
Let's dive into the world of academic writing where spelling and grammar aren't the only game-changers. A top-notch article should be crystal clear, concise, and engaging, but nailing that perfection can be a struggle for many, especially for non-native English speakers. To make things easier, there's a host of English editing tools available online, each claiming the crown for being the best. As a researcher, let's find out how to separate the best from the rest when English isn’t your first language.
A great way to assess these AI writing tools is by referring to independent studies. A whitepaper by Dr. Alexopoulou from Cambridge Language Sciences tested seven language correction tools, and our platform and InstaText topped the charts with approximately 100 and 175 suggestions per 1,000 words, respectively. But here's the catch; according to an expert human assessment comparison, our platform boasts a lower percentage of incorrect suggestions: 13%, as opposed to 23% for InstaText.
But how do these numbers make a difference in real-life scenarios? Let's dig into a sample passage to find out (Figure 1).
Figure 1. Sample passage with suggestions by (a) InstaText and (b) our platform.
Figure 2. Sentence #1: (a) InstaText and (b) our platform.
As a researcher, you're craving an AI editing tool that offers more than just grammar and spelling corrections, am I right? Our platform stands tall by providing substantive rephrases and rewrites that cover 13% more objective errors than InstaText.
Let's break down this scenario using the sample passage; take a peek at Figure 2a for InstaText's suggestions and Figure 2b for our platform's style. Our platform leaves you with a well-crafted, error-free sentence that maintains your voice, thanks to our AI language tools, which are designed based on corrections made by professional copyeditors on academic papers.
Now, let's crack open sentence #4 from the sample (Figure 3). While sentence #1 states that near-field inductive coupling is the predominant technology for wireless power transfer, sentence #4 states a disadvantage with inductive coupling: it cannot be used with miniaturization, which is a new requirement in this area. A suitable transition phrase for introducing this disadvantage is "However," as shown in Figure 3b, but InstaText opts for "because," a change that completely shifts the meaning (Figure 3a). This inconsistency is particularly troubling for non-native English speakers, as InstaText doesn't offer any explanation for alterations it makes.
Table 1: our platform vs. InstaText performance on the sample passage.
| Sentence # | InstaText Proposed Change | our platform Recommendation ||------------|---------------------------|------------------------------|| Sentence 1 | Wireless power transmission to power | No change || Sentence 3 | on the other hand to however | Corrected transition || Sentence 4 | As to Because | No change || Sentence 5 | Resolution to Despite | No change || Sentence 7 | small (unnecessary) | Removed redundancy |
In conclusion, if you're a researcher in search of an AI editing tool that goes the extra mile for academic writing, our platform is your golden ticket. Ready to take your academic writing game to the next level? Give our platform a spin today!
