Chai Bisket Raises $5M for Gen Z-Focused OTT Platform Chai Shots
Chai Bisket, a regional digital content startup, has secured $5 million in seed funding. The investment will fuel the launch of Chai Shots, a mobile-first over-the-top (OTT) platform. The round was led by Info Edge Ventures and General Catalyst, with participation from prominent angel investors including Kunal Shah and Sahil Khurana.
Founded in 2015 by Sharath Chandra and Anurag Reddy, Chai Bisket has gained significant traction, amassing over two billion views across its YouTube channels. The startup's latest venture, Chai Shots, aims to cater to Gen Z audiences and users in India's smaller cities. Krishna Mohan Varma has joined as a cofounder to lead the platform's technology strategy.
Chai Shots will initially launch in Telugu before expanding to include Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. The platform focuses on short-form fictional storytelling, capitalizing on the popularity of 'microdramas'.
With $5 million in seed funding, Chai Bisket is set to revolutionize regional digital content with its new OTT platform, Chai Shots. The platform targets Gen Z audiences and users in smaller cities, offering engaging short-form fictional storytelling in multiple languages.
