Movie Time-Travel: "Here" Unleashes a New Cinematic Experience

Catch Tom Hanks Transverse Time in the Trailer for Robert Zemeckis's "Here", Showcasing His De-Ageing Effects

It's been two decades since director Robert Zemeckis pushed the boundaries of CGI with "The Polar Express" and now he's back to do it again. His latest creation, "Here," reunites the esteemed filmmaker with none other than Tom Hanks, who starred in Zemeckis' iconic "Forrest Gump." And if that doesn't pique your curiosity, let me tell you about this movie – it's like nothing you've ever seen before.

"Here" tells a sprawling tale that spans several decades of two characters' lives, all happening within a single room - thanks to some serious de-aging tech. No, it's not your ordinary storytelling. It's innovative, imaginative, and well, just a little mind-bending.

De-aging technology has been around for a while, but it really came into its own in 2019 with films like "The Irishman," "Gemini Man," and "Captain Marvel." While it wasn't perfect, it was a start. But was that enough for Zemeckis? You bet it wasn't!

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the director expressed his confidence in his team's ability to perfect the de-aging process. He believes they've worked out the kinks for "Here," and that's all down to the "exceptional performances" from Hanks and his co-star Robin Wright. According to Zemeckis, the actors had to "channel what we were like 50 or 40 years ago" to make the de-aging technology work its magic.

Now, I've seen some questionable movies in my time, but Zemeckis has a rap sheet that includes some real stinkers from the new millennium. So despite my skepticism, I can't help but be drawn in by "Here." The cast is incredible, with the legendary Eric Roth co-penning the script. Roth has some seriously impressive credits like "Dune" and "The Insider" to his name, so I've got high hopes for "Here."

To top it all off, the source material is none other than a critically acclaimed graphic novel by Richard McGuire, which Chris Ware of The Guardian heralded as a "book that comes along once a decade, if not a century." According to Ware, the author "has introduced a new way of making a book."

So, are you ready to join me on this cinematic adventure? Check out the trailer and let me know what you think of the de-aging in the comments. "Here" hits theaters on November 15th. Get ready to be amazed!
