Car Sales of Electric Passengers Vehicles Soar by 93% in July 2025: Reports by the Federation of Automobile Dealers and Octbers

Car Sales of Electric Passengers Vehicles Soar by 93% in July 2025: Reports by the Federation of Automobile Dealers and Octbers

In a significant surge, electric car sales in India saw a remarkable increase in July 2025. According to the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), total electric car sales reached 15,528 units, marking a 93% year-on-year (YoY) growth.

Leading the pack was Tata Motors, which sold 6,047 units, making it the top-selling electric passenger vehicle (EV) brand in India for the month. This represents a 19% increase compared to July 2024. Tata Motors also maintained its leadership position in the electric commercial vehicle segment, selling 333 units.

Mahindra & Mahindra followed closely, recording 2,835 sales in July 2025, showing an impressive 446.24% YoY growth. However, the company experienced a 6.04% drop from the previous month.

Hyundai Motor India also saw a significant increase, selling 613 electric vehicles in July 2025, up 938.89% YoY. The growth in EV sales was attributed to expanding model line-ups, improved availability, and state-level subsidies.

Other notable mentions include MG Motor India, which sold 5,089 units in July 2025, a massive 214.91% increase compared to July last year. Mercedes-Benz sold 86 units, up 145.71% compared to July 2024, and BMW India sold 234 units, recording a 200% YoY growth.

C.S. Vigneshwar, FADA President, stated that electric mobility continued its forward momentum in July 2025. Electric PVs accounted for 4.7% of the total passenger vehicle market in July 2025. It's worth noting that the data provided by FADA does not include figures from Telangana and has been compiled from 1,386 out of 1,446 RTOs in India as of August 4, 2025.

As the shift towards electric mobility continues, it will be interesting to see how these trends evolve in the coming months. With increasing model options, improved infrastructure, and government incentives, the future of electric vehicles in India looks promising.
