Updated Tank 500 by Great Wall Motor Unveiled, Offering Hybrid Power and Off-Road Capabilities
Great Wall Motor (GWM) has unveiled the updated Tank 500, a midsize SUV that blends advanced hybrid technology with robust off-road performance. The rugged vehicle is set to hit the market later this quarter, with pre-sales commencing next month.
Key Features and Specifications
The updated Tank 500 offers two plug-in hybrid powertrains: the Hi4-T and Hi4-Z. The Hi4-T combines a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine (185 kW / 248 hp) with a 120 kW (161 hp) electric motor and a 9-speed automatic transmission (9HAT), delivering a total system output of 300 kW (402 hp). The Hi4-Z, designed for family use, is powered by a 2.0L turbo engine and dual electric motors, offering a combined 455 kW (610 hp). Both versions use ternary lithium battery packs, providing impressive WLTC pure electric ranges of approximately 110 km (Hi4-T) and 201 km (Hi4-Z).
The updated Tank 500 measures 5,078 mm in length, 1,934 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. It boasts an approach angle of 29°, a departure angle of 24°, and a ground clearance of 210 mm, ensuring strong off-road capabilities. The SUV can tow up to 2,500 kg and features multi-terrain drive modes such as Sand, Mud, and Snow for adaptable handling, as well as Hill Descent Control for safe navigation on steep slopes.
Inside, the updated Tank 500 offers a redesigned front grille, a new "GWM" logo on the tailgate, and a three-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters. The central control screen features Coffee OS 3, while the center console houses a refrigerator with a temperature range from -6°C to 50°C. The vehicle also includes two 50W wireless charging pads, Nappa leather seats with ventilation and heating functions, adjustable rear seat backrests, and a maximum trunk volume of 1,489 liters. The rear ceiling entertainment screen supports voice, gesture, touch, and remote controls.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
The updated Tank 500 is equipped with Great Wall Motor's third-generation advanced driver-assistance system, Coffee Pilot Ultra. This system uses ATX LiDAR (128 channels) by Hesai Group, along with millimeter-wave radars, ultrasonic radars, and HD cameras for comprehensive perception. The Nvidia Orin-X smart driving chip enables features like HD map-free full-scenario navigation on autopilot (NOA), memory parking, and automatic parking.
The updated Tank 500 presents itself as a versatile and modern SUV, well-suited for both adventurous and everyday use in 2025.
