Fang Cheng Bao, a Chinese automobile manufacturer under the BYD Group, has expanded its lineup with the introduction of Smart Driving Edition variants for its Bao 5 off-road SUV. These new models come equipped with either BYD's God's Eye C smart driving system or Huawei's Qiankun ADS 3.0, marking the second vehicle under the BYD Group to feature Huawei's technology.

The Bao 5, which initially boasted the FiPilot smart driving system exclusive to Fang Cheng Bao, maintains its core specifications identical to the regular versions. With a length of 4,890 mm, width of 1,970 mm, height of 1,920 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,800 mm, the Bao 5 offers a comfortable five-seat hybrid configuration, powered by dual electric motors that produce a total power of 505 kW and a torque of 760 Nm. This enables the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in an impressive 4.8 seconds.

Two of the new Bao 5 variants come with BYD's God's Eye C smart driving system, a tiered system that offers scalable automation across a wide range of vehicles. God's Eye C is likely a "Level 2+" automation, focusing on driver-supervised automation for tasks like overtaking and parking. Deliveries for the two less expensive variants featuring BYD's God's Eye C system will begin in mid-March.

The other two new variants come with Huawei's Qiankun ADS 3.0 system, which emphasizes multi-sensor fusion for maximum safety and reliability in complex environments. Qiankun ADS 3.0 uses a more comprehensive sensor suite and proprietary AI for advanced autonomous driving and obstacle avoidance. Deliveries for the two higher-priced variants using Huawei's solution will begin in April.

The starting price of the Smart Driving Edition variants is RMB 239,800 ($33,090). In January 2025, Fang Cheng Bao delivered 6,219 vehicles, with 3,210 Bao 5s and 3,009 Bao 8s. The Bao 8 SUV, the second model from Fang Cheng Bao, was launched on November 12, 2024, and was the first under the BYD umbrella to feature Huawei's driver assistance system.

Fang Cheng Bao has also announced plans to unveil a new Tai lineup, with the first model expected to be released in the first half of 2025. The company launched the Fang Cheng Bao brand on August 16, 2023, and the Bao 5 was its first official model.

In comparison, BYD's God’s Eye C and Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 differ in their hardware emphasis, safety philosophy, and target vehicle segments. God’s Eye C is tailored for scalable, cost-effective deployment across a wide range of models, with tiered features and hardware, focusing on driver-supervised automation and broad accessibility. On the other hand, Qiankun ADS 3.0 emphasizes multi-sensor fusion for maximum safety and reliability in complex environments, using a more comprehensive sensor suite and proprietary AI for advanced autonomous driving and obstacle avoidance.
