BMW's expanded electric vehicle lineup: The larger iX3 and i3 models highlighted
BMW Unveils New Electric Vehicles and Innovative Technology
BMW is set to revolutionize its electric vehicle lineup with a series of new models and advanced technology, starting with the debut of the new BMW iX3 this fall.
The iX3, which shares its design and technology with the BMW i Vision Dee and Vision Neue Klasse X studies, will be the first model to adopt the new BMW Panoramic iDrive, which will be integrated into all new BMW vehicles starting from the end of the year. This innovative system will coexist with a head-up module, providing drivers with an immersive and intuitive driving experience.
The production process for the iX3, as well as for other upcoming models, has been meticulously planned and simulated virtually, ensuring a seamless transition to series production. This virtual planning and testing played a crucial role in the successful start of production at the Debrecen plant, where the assembly line is now running smoothly. Hans-Peter Kemser, the plant manager at BMW Debrecen, is leading the production management of the first model of the "Neue Klasse" at the plant.
Series production of the iX3 will begin gradually in the fourth quarter, followed by the launch of the new BMW i3 Touring by the end of 2026. The i3 Touring, a Touring model, promises to offer improved driving performance and range, thanks to the new battery technology that will be used in all new BMW models.
This new battery technology is a significant leap forward, upgrading the on-board network to a modern 800-volt system. This upgrade allows for faster charging speeds, with the charging speed of the new BMW models increasing from the current maximum of 205 kW to 300 kW. The first use of round lithium-ion battery cells also contributes to this faster charging speed, allowing for a refueling range of an additional 300 kilometers in just ten minutes.
An improvement of about one-fifth in the cW value is expected to bring further benefits in driving performance and range. The new information concept in the upcoming BMW models will also contribute to an enhanced driving experience.
Looking ahead, the new BMW i3 sedan is expected to be released in summer 2026, followed by the release of the BMW i3M, which could offer over 600 PS and all-wheel drive, by 2027. By the end of 2027, four more new BMW models will join the iX3 and i3, further expanding BMW's electric vehicle lineup.
These new models and advanced technology mark a significant step forward in BMW's commitment to a sustainable future and its goal of becoming a leader in electric mobility.
