Berlin introduces 270 electric buses after successful initial deployment
Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) continues to lead the charge in zero-emission public transportation with a significant investment in the latest electric solutions from Solaris Deutschland GmbH.
In a recent statement, Christian Goll, Managing Director of Solaris Deutschland GmbH, praised BVG for its exemplary approach to fleet electrification and infrastructure modernization. The latest move comes as BVG has placed an order for 270 more Solaris Urbino 18 electric articulated buses, following the delivery of the first 50 units in December 2023.
According to Goll, this record-breaking order is a strong sign of the successful and long-standing partnership between BVG and Solaris. He also highlighted that BVG is tackling the key challenges faced by public transport operators in Europe today – fleet electrification and infrastructure modernization – in an exemplary manner.
The new buses will be equipped with Solaris High Energy batteries, ensuring optimal performance and reduced carbon footprint. This investment is part of BVG's broader strategy to transition its entire fleet to zero-emission vehicles.
Meanwhile, Flexecharge, a leading provider of charging solutions, has announced its partnership with Recharge, a Scandinavian fast-charging network operator. The collaboration aims to expand Flexecharge's virtual power plant based on public fast-charging stations. Initially, the partnership will implement 66 locations and over 500 fast-charging points in Sweden's SE3 grid area for 2025 and beyond.
This move is a significant step towards creating a more sustainable charging infrastructure for electric vehicles across Europe. As public transport operators and charging providers join forces, the future of zero-emission mobility looks increasingly promising.
