Backpackers' favorite MSR Hubba Hubba tent, famously known, receives a overhaul; I journeyed to Ireland to examine the dazzling LT2 shelter prior to its market debut

Backpacking enthusiasts eagerly await the market launch of the revamped MSR Hubba Hubba tent, the renowned LT2 shelter, as I had the opportunity to test it out during a trip to Ireland.

The Hubba Hubba LT, the latest offering from Mountain Safety Research (MSR), is set to hit the market in early 2026, bringing a breathable, durable, and improved design to the three-season backpacking tent scene.

This super-breathable, freestanding tent is designed for two people and is a natural evolution from the popular Hubba Hubba NX. The LT model maintains the same basic layout but with updates, emphasising durability and repairability.

One of the key differences between the Hubba Hubba LT and its predecessor is the use of lighter materials and refined construction. The LT version tends to use lighter denier fabrics and streamlined pole designs, improving packability and weight without sacrificing livability or weather protection.

The Hubba Hubba LT boasts several noteworthy features. The corner hardware has been upgraded to all metal and highly durable components for increased durability. The flysheet, floor, and internal mesh walls are now solution-dyed, reducing carbon emissions by at least 80%.

The internal doors have been changed to a triangular shaped opening with two separate zips meeting at the point of the right angle, making them more durable, easier to use with one hand, and the zipper always ends up in the same place.

The main tent is made mostly from solution-dyed micromesh, providing excellent breathability and bug protection. The Hubba Hubba LT also features enhanced window vents and lightweight yet sturdy 'mini groundhog' stakes.

The Hubba Hubba LT retains essentially the same shape and the flysheet's colour scheme is subtly different from the NX. The DAC pole skeleton has been redesigned, with the four legs lengthened and the brow pole extended, increasing internal living space and vestibule utility.

The Hubba Hubba LT weighs 3lb 6oz (1.54kg), making it lighter than the 3lb 13oz (1.72 kg) of the NX. The hydrostatic head (HH) rating of the flysheet remains 1,200mm, but the HH rating of the tent body has dropped from 3000mm on the NX to 1,800mm on the LT.

The Hubba Hubba, first launched by MSR in 2004, was the first widely available 3-season packable tent to offer a large living space, two doors, and spacious vestibules. Over the years, MSR has adapted the Hubba design to produce a 1-person tent for solo campers, a 3-person Mutha Hubba, a 4-person Papa Hubba, and developed a 1-person and 2-person iteration for bikepackers.

The Hubba Hubba LT will be available in January 2026 in Europe and a bit earlier in the United States. For those seeking a reliable three-season shelter with improved comfort levels, ample covered outdoor space for storing gear and using a camping stove, and a focus on durability and repairability, the Hubba Hubba LT is worth considering.
